Gatherings

At The Well, we refer to our Sunday services as gatherings.

We use this language intentionally. The church is not primarily a service we attend, but a people gathered by God. From the beginning, God has called His people together to hear His Word, to pray, to sing, to share the table, and to be sent back into the world. Calling our services gatherings reminds us that church is both who we are and what we participate in together, not something we observe or consume.

We gather not because gathering is familiar or convenient, but because following Jesus is not meant to be done alone. We need one another on the journey to maturity and wholeness in God.

Meeting God Together

When we gather, we acknowledge and attend to God’s presence among us. We listen to Scripture because God speaks to His people through His Word, addressing us not only as individuals but as a gathered community. We come to the table to receive again the grace we cannot produce for ourselves, trusting that Christ meets His people there and nourishes them by His Spirit. We pray and sing together as acts of dependence and hope, bringing our joys, griefs, confessions, and longings before God, and carrying one another with us as we do. In all of this, gathering becomes a practice of presence: with one another, and with God Himself.

We believe Jesus meets His people as they gather, not because the moment is perfected, but because He is faithful to be present with those who come to Him. The Holy Spirit works quietly among us, leading us to Christ.

Filled and Sent

When we gather, we come thirsty.

Throughout Scripture, God meets His people at wells, and Jesus speaks of offering living water that satisfies more deeply than anything else. In our gatherings, we come to be filled again by God’s grace through His Word, the table, prayer, and shared presence.

But water from a well is not meant to be hoarded. It is meant to be shared.

We do not gather to retreat from the world, but to be filled with life within it. As we are filled, we are also sent back into our homes, workplaces, neighborhoods, and relationships. Gathering shapes us as people who carry what we have received into ordinary life, bearing witness through love, integrity, and hope.

We gather not to retreat from the world, but to be filled and sent into it, carrying Jesus’ grace into our everyday relationships and places of influence.
